Born and raised in Boston, Kathryn grew up in the family business of flowers with her father, aunt and grandmother all having shops. Her father had a wonderful European look using strong colors and a loose creative style and while working in the shop, young Kathryn started designing and learning the use of color and composition.

Upon moving to California in 1992, when her children were old enough to start school so did Kathryn. Taking as many painting classes as her schedule would allow, she discovered oils and Phil Brown. Phil recognized her love of painting animals and suggested she paint them exclusively for a semester. Phil gave her permission to paint a subject some felt too whimsical in the world of landscapes and bowls of fruit.

After her first studio at St Joseph’s in Grass Valley, she was invited to share space in the studio of Judith Lowry. Forever grateful for Judith’s inspiration to paint intuitively and just have fun, she learned a lot painting alongside an amazing career artist.

After over 22 years creating custom pet portraits, she has decided its time to explore new subjects. Animals will always be a favorite subject but she is exploring more intuitive paintings, creating work with little to no planning.
