Karen’s love for capturing interesting scenes began with photography as a young adult. Marriage, raising children, and a corporate career took priority until she retired in 2018. It was then that she received a blank journal and attended a creative journaling class, renewing her passion for creativity. In addition to her paintings, she still fills journals with a variety of mediums paired with Scripture, memorable lyrics and quotes.

Karen enjoys experimenting with different art styles and techniques with watercolor, her favorite medium. Most of all she loves painting in a way that conveys and elicits joy. She is currently appreciating the works of contemporary urban sketch artists and experimenting with the incorporation of lettering into her paintings. Travel often provides motivation for her paintings and she’s always captivated by an aged object covered with rust and locations that evoke emotion.

Sometimes Karen’s art reflects the influence of growing up around the beaches of San Diego and working in the family surf shop. The ocean is her favorite spot to unwind, reflect and recharge and a leisurely bike ride is a close second.

Art is the gift of God and must be used unto His glory. That in art is highest which aims at this.
