Contemporary Open-Impressionism best describes Annette’s work. “It is limitless, creative and stimulating. I find that nature as a subject matter gives me a special feeling and sensitivity that I can express in an impressionistic way.”
Focusing primarily on landscapes and florals, she uses selective values and palettes of color to stimulate the viewer’s own individual experience.
When she’s seeking inspiration, “I go to nature. I am the founding director of “Sierra Foothills Plein Aire Painter’s”. Once, my easel blew over at Gold Lake when the winds gusted up to 35 knots. I’ve backpacked the Sierras, hiked the Yuba River, photographed and sketched remote areas in the Sierra Nevada and western states, Canada and Europe.”
“In my studio I often set up a still life from my garden, augmented by garlic, berries, avocado and other fruits and vegetables. I brew a cup of tea, put on my favorite music and paint with vigor, energy and movement.
Her mentors are French impressionists. “I have been able to travel and spend time in their homeland as I am in close contact to my French family. I feel very connected to Van Gough, Monet, Bonnard and creatively lifted by Marc Chagall. They all give me energy for life and expression”. Annette’s recent interests include workshops in Yosemite and Sedona painting Plein Aire and attending Emerson Art School in Arizona. Her work is featured in numerous galleries, businesses, Nevada County Open Studios and has won awards on ArtFinder.
