Artist’s Statement:

The Yuba River is my Muse and calls me to come and paint. My world consists of brushes, paint and canvas…I feel good here. I understand these things. I feel centered and inspired to paint simply by being in my studio and being surrounded with these materials. I imagine that each river painting that comes into being, wants to calm and inspire us to let go and listen to the rivers song. It is my wish to continue to document this beautiful watershed to preserve the magic for generations to come.

Artist’s Bio:

Denise Wey is a painter, teaching-artist and long-term resident of Nevada County. Her vibrant, large-format contemporary paintings of the Yuba River grace many homes in the county and beyond. Denise Wey was awarded The Union’s 2020 & 2021 “Best Visual Artist of Nevada County”. Her “Poppies on the Yuba” painting is featured as a vinyl wrap on the Nevada County Connects bus fleet.
